We were approached by Hayle Town Council to repair, restore and repoint with lime the oldest standard gauge bridge in Cornwall. Under guidance and the careful eye of English Heritage, we have been tasked with this restoration.
From our point of view it is a privilege to be given this task which has significant importance locally and throughout Cornwall.
The bridge was built in 1837 and has remained unmodified since 1852 and is regarded so important that it has been classed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. This is Great Britain’s oldest form of heritage protection, dating from the 1882 Ancient Monuments Act.
